Cole poised for Irons return
15 May 2009 - 07:17:08
West Ham United striker Carlton Cole is set to finally make his return from a groin injury against Everton this weekend.
The 25-year-old has been sidelined since early March, having been injured while in action for England against Slovakia, but is now back in full training and in contention to face the Toffees.
Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola said: "He is doing very well and will be in the squad.
"He is fit and that is good news for us. He might start, we will decide the day before the game."
Cole's return comes with the Irons still in the hunt for seventh spot in the table and a place in the Europa League next season.
Zola added: "It is possible if we pick up six points from two games.
"Four might be enough, but to be sure we want six. European football is very important for the squad, to give them a boost.
"If they are ready or not, that is something I would like to try on the pitch.
"I realise playing in Europe is a big thing because there are many more games to play. We are willing to take the risk and would love to be in the competition."
