Bowyer blow for Hammers

West Ham will be without Saturday's goal hero Lee Bowyer for several weeks after manager Alan Curbishley revealed the midfielder is poised to undergo hernia surgery.
Bowyer scored twice as the Hammers thrashed hapless Derby County 5-0 on Saturday, but afterwards Curbishley admitted the former England midfielder will go under the knife this week and join the club's lengthy injury list.
The unlucky Hammers are currently without 11 injured first-team players.
"Unfortunately he's been one who's been playing with an injury," said Curbishley.
"He's having an operation on Tuesday, so he's going to be out for a while."
Meanwhile, Curbishley is hopeful that an ankle injury picked up by defender George McCartney will clear up during the international break.
He added: "We are hoping that George's injury is not as bad as we think as we would be a bit more stretched.
"There were a few tackles flying around which we expected, but unfortunately for us, George came out on the end of one and turned his ankle."
