Boa Morte out until New Year

West Ham United midfielder Luis Boa Morte will be out of action until 2010 after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

The Portugal international was fitted with a knee brace and stretchered off in the early stages of West Ham's 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Asia Cup.

Manager Gianfranco Zola admitted that the early indications of the injury were not good and his fears have now been confirmed.

"It is a big blow for me," admitted the Italian boss.

"He is an important player both on the pitch and off the pitch."

Boa Morte will undergo further tests to determine whether he will require surgery once the swelling of his knee deters.
