Blades lose latest appeal
13 Jul 2007 - 16:31:29
West Ham's participation in the 2007-08 Premier League campaign now looks certain after Sheffield United were refused the chance to appeal against the decision not to dock the Hammers any points over the Carlos Tevez affair.
The Blades will now consider their options after Friday's High Court ruling.
Following the verdict, Blades solicitor Paul Stothard said: "Sheffield United have not been granted leave to appeal aspects of the arbitration panel's decision earlier this month.
"This application was made on very limited grounds and it has also been denied on very limited grounds.
"Sheffield United are not precluded from taking further action whether against the Premier League or West Ham.
"We will consider our position with our professional advisors and make further statements in due course."
West Ham were found guilty on 27 April of acting improperly and withholding vital documentation over Tevez and Javier Mascherano's ownership and fined £5.5million.
The two Argentina internationals moved to Upton Park last August, although Mascherano is currently plying his trade with Liverpool.
Although the duo were registered as players, West Ham failed to disclose that they had entered into an agreement with third-party companies.
Sheffield United launched their first appeal after they were relegated on the last day of the season as a result of their defeat to Wigan Athletic and the Hammers' victory at Manchester United.
