    Bellamy seeks Irons exit

    16 Jan 2009 - 12:33:22

West Ham United are reported to have turned down a transfer request from unsettled striker Craig Bellamy.

The Wales international is believed to have been the subject of three unsuccessful bids from Manchester City during the current transfer window.

However, the 29-year-old former Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United striker is reported to have asked to leave Upton Park following interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Bellamy rejected the opportunity to sign a new contract with the cash-strapped Hammers on Thursday following talks with chief executive Scott Duxbury.

But, according to reports, Duxbury turned down a verbal transfer request from Bellamy, who has been with the Hammers since a £7.5million move from Liverpool in the summer of 2007.

Speaking last month, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp confirmed his interest in signing Bellamy, when saying: "We're short in certain areas to make the difference.

"We made an offer (for Bellamy) and it got turned down so I don't know where we go from there."
