    Behrami blow for Hammers

    11 Mar 2009 - 08:11:45

West Ham United have confirmed that Valon Behrami will be sidelined for around six months after damaging the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The Swiss international was injured during the first half of the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on March 1 after catching his studs in the turf.

Behrami, who joined the Hammers in the summer from Lazio and has made 27 appearances, is now likely to be out of action until October.

Meanwhile, the club are still waiting on news of the extent of a knee injury suffered by midfielder Jack Collison against Wigan Athletic seven days ago.

Elsewhere, the Hammers have handed promising striker Zavon Hines a new contract.

The 20-year-old is the latest product to emerge from the club's academy and, after breaking into the first-team this season, he has penned a deal which will keep him at Upton Park until summer 2010.

"I just want to show the manager what I can do and repay all the support he has given me," he told the club's official website.

"I have got to prove to him that I am worth this contract. He has seen a little bit of what I can do in training but I have just got to try and do my best.

"Next season has to be the one for me to push on."
