Ashton sets pre-season target

West Ham United striker Dean Ashton is confident that he will be fit enough to join in pre-season training next month.

The 26-year-old former Crewe Alexandra and Norwich City forward only featured in four Premier League matches last term with an ankle injury keeping him on the sidelines since September 2008.

However, Ashton told Daily Star Sunday: "I'm looking to get myself back for pre-season now.

"I don't want to come back unless I'm right. Sometimes it almost seems as if there's something against me."
