West Ham United striker Dean Ashton is eyeing a return to action early in the new year after several months out with an ankle injury.
The 22-year-old was injured in training with England ahead of the friendly international against Greece in August and has been frustrated to miss out on the first half of the Premiership season.
He commented: "Hopefully, I'll be back in the new year. It's been a terrible few months, but hopefully, it won't be long now.
"The first few weeks after the injury were really hard, especially when I had to watch the England match in hospital.
"But now I feel fine and I'm just looking forward to getting back as soon as possible to help the team."
Ashton joined the Hammers in January for £7.25million from Norwich City and has scored six goals in 16 outings for the Upton Park club.
