West ham United have confirmed that Brescia's sporting director Gianluca Nani will start work as the club's first technical director in June.

The 45-year-old has been with the Serie B side since 1999 but will work with current Hammers boss Alan Curbishley on identifying potential transfer targets for the summer.

Curbishley is looking forward to working with the Italian, saying: "I don't think anyone is thinking of anything other than progressing.

"That's why we're looking at this technical director and everything else - because I firmly believe that, when I have everyone fit, we have an opportunity to push forward."

Nani, whose job will also involve improving the club's international scouting network and developing the youth academy, was responsible for signing several players who have gone on to play for Italy, including Andrea Pirlo and Luca Toni.

He was also involved in bringing Roberto Baggio to Brescia in 2000.
