Harewood extends Hammers stay

West ham United striker Marlon Harewood has agreed a contract extension that will keep the former Nottingham Forest star at Upton Park until June 2007.

The 25-year-old has scored 25 goals in just 61 League starts for the Hammers since his arrival from Forest for £500,000 in November 2003 and is delighted to have committed himself to the club for another two years.

"The environment around West ham United is excellent and the club is ambitious and looking to move forward," he told the club's official website.

"I want to play in the Premiership with West ham United. We are still right in the promotion race, with a very important game against Preston coming up on Saturday.

"Promotion from this division is tough to achieve, but it's important that everyone stays focused on winning the next game and making sure there are no slip-ups.

"Automatic promotion is a tough ask, but that's what we've been aiming for all season and we still believe that we can achieve it."
