West Bromwich boss Roberto Di Matteo to check if Paul Scharner is fit to face Spurs

Battle: Ex-Wigan player Scharner is hoping to play New West Bromwich Albion signing Paul Scharner will try to convince boss Roberto Di Matteo he is fit enough to be considered for the weekend Barclays Premier League clash with Tottenham. Scharner will turn out for the reserves against Bolton at Albion's training ground on Tuesday afternoon - his first match since appearing for Wigan against Chelsea on May 9. Di Matteo admitted he has recruited Scharner primarily to operate in midfield even though he can also play at centre-half. He said: 'I said to him I was recruiting him as a midfielder. We know he can play centre-half but primarily he has been signed as a midfielder.'
