Thomas on the goal rush

Striker aiming for more goals Jerome Thomas is hoping to find his scoring boots next season. The flying winger scored his first goal under Roy Hodgson in yesterday’s 2-1 pre-season defeat to San Jose Earthquakes. Thomas found the net three times last term before current head coach Hodgson took over in February and deployed the wide man in a more conservative fashion. The former Charlton and Portsmouth man expects to play in a similar fashion again next term, but still hopes to improve on his tally next season. "Since Roy came in I've had to sacrifice a lot of my attacking game and do more defending for the greater good of the team,” he said. "It was good to get a chance, take it and get on the scoresheet even though we lost. "I'll be looking to improve on the three goals I scored last season. "The three I got came before Roy took over when I had more licence to attack. "Now it's got to be a case of balance, picking the right times to make runs, and looking for more assists as Roy wants me and Brunty to play more as left and right midfielders rather than wingers, as we were under Di Matteo."
