Thomas eyes festive cheer
22 Dec 2009 - 14:39:19
West Bromwich Albion star Jerome Thomas is hoping the side can claim back-to-back Championship wins over the Christmas period to aid their promotion charge.
With a Boxing Day test against Peterborough United followed up two days later with a trip to Scunthorpe two days later, it gives the Baggies a perfect opportunity to stave off Nottingham Forest's challenge.
Their weekend fixture against Blackpool was cancelled due to plummeting temperatures in the north west and Thomas would have missed the game through injury.
But he is now fighting fit and raring to go over the festive period.
Speaking to Birmingham Mail, he said: "I'm happy the game was called off on Saturday because I would have missed it with a hamstring strain.
"It's given me more time to recover and I'll be fit for Saturday.
"We're aiming for six points over Christmas and, with Forest putting the pressure back on us, it is time for us to step up now and open up the gap again.
"We need to re-stamp our authority and remind people what we're about."
