Tamas must wait on new deal
West Brom defender Gabriel Tamas has been told he will have to wait until the summer to find out if he is to be offered a new deal.
The Romania international is in the final year of his contract but Albion have the option of a 12-month extension in their favour. Albion have already opened contract talks with centre-back Gareth McAuley and striker Shane Long, and Tamas indicated last week that he wants to remain at the Hawthorns for the rest of his career.
However, West Brom head coach Steve Clarke said: "Gabby is one of a number of players where we will probably look at the situation at the end of the season. For now, there are no talks with Gabby. We have talks ongoing with one or two players just now - but you can't talk to everyone at the same time. Gabby will be addressed at the end of the season."
Pressed on the futures of McAuley and Long, Clarke said: "We are still talking. Richard Garlick [Albion's technical director] went to Ireland to speak to one of Shane's advisors, but I don't know how it went because I haven't spoken to him."
McAuley has been one of Albion's most consistent players since signing from Ipswich during the summer of 2011 while Long has formed a successful strike partnership with on-loan Romelu Lukaku.
The encounter with West Ham on Saturday will bring back difficult memories for Clarke, who had a spell at Upton Park as number two to Gianfranco Zola between 2008 and 2010.
"The Icelandic consortium were there when they appointed Gianfranco Zola as manager," Clarke said.
"Within two weeks of myself and Gianfranco going to the club, there was the credit crunch, all the banks crashed. The Icelandic owner lost all his money which was a shame for him.
"The club was put in a really difficult place and it became a different job to the one we thought we were going into. But I enjoyed my time there and it will be good to see a few old faces.
"The second season was difficult [West Ham finished one place above the relegation zone] but I learned a lot and it stood me in good stead for the job I am doing here."
