Phillips feared end of career

West Bromwich Albion hit-man Kevin Phillips is making good progress in his first week back in training after fearing he would never play football again.

Phillips has notched an impressive ten league goals this season and is the Baggies' top scorer.

However, he was stretchered off last month against Sheffield Wednesday with a knee injury that has forced him to miss the last four weeks.

Phillips told Albion's official website: "I've never ever felt pain like I did when it happened, and I've had some injuries in my career. I knew in my head it could potentially be a serious one.

"I'm delighted to be back in training after what's been a frustrating month. The knee has responded well. I'm just going to see how I get on and take it from there."

The ex-Sunderland and Aston Villa forward has refused to set a comeback date for his return to Tony Mowbray's squad as the Baggies continue their hunt for promotion back to the Premier League.
