Phillips earns Mowbray praise
09 Apr 2008 - 12:36:04
West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Mowbray hailed veteran striker Kevin Phillips after his double at Blackpool helped the Baggies move top of the Championship table.
Phillips came off the bench to net twice in the 3-1 win at Bloomfield Road, with Mowbray full of praise for the 34-year-old, who has now scored 24 times this season.
He said: "We looked drained after our (FA Cup semi-final) defeat at Wembley. I wanted to keep Kevin Phillips back just in case we needed him and we did.
"We were playing a team who were well set up defensively and who put a lot of bodies behind the ball after they scored.
"Having Kevin is a great option. He is showing a desire to get on the field and to get us promoted and provides me with an option to use at certain stages of the game.
"I believe he wants to stay with us and it is up to the powers that be to see if that can be done for next season."
