Phillips back for Baggies

West Bromwich Albion striker Kevin Phillips has been given the green light to return to action ahead of Saturday's trip to Colchester.

Phillips, 34, has missed the Baggies' last two matches with an ankle problem but could return at the weekend, according to assistant manager Mark Venus.

"Kevin's back in training. It's his first day back with the squad so we'll see how he goes," he told the club's official website.

"Hopefully, he'll be okay and we'll see how he is at the end of the week.

"He came off at the end of the QPR game and said he'd opened his ankle up a little bit and as the days progressed it was a bit worse than we thought.

"That's football and why you have squads. He's a good player, a good trainer and we'll see him back soon."

Phillips has scored six times in seven appearances this season.
