Pearson's early exit

West Bromwich Albion caretaker manager Nigel Pearson has decided to step down ahead of the Baggies' clash with Crystal Palace. Pearson had been expected to take charge for the trip to Selhurst Park, but has opted to exit The Hawthorns, leaving reserve team boss Craig Shakespeare in charge until Tony Mowbray takes over on Wednesday. Pearson told the club's official website: "The last four weeks have obviously been difficult, but I'm proud of the way both myself and the staff have handled the situation. I wish them every success for the remainder of the season. "Out of all the names that have been touted around for the manager's job in the media, Tony is certainly the one that I would have chosen. "I know the club is in safe hands now. Tony's a very talented manager and an honest man who will want to do his very best for the football club. "I also want to wish him and the club all the very best for the rest of the season."
