New rules don't worry Di Matteo

20 May 2010 - 14:30:22

West Bromwich Albion manager Roberto Di Matteo has admitted his side face a test ahead of the new season with new Premier League rules affecting his team selection.

At the start of the 2010/11 campaign, club's must select eight homegrown players in their squad of 25 players and, although it could pose some problems for the Baggies, the Italian coach is not overly concerned with the concept.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: This will affect every club - not just us.

"You need to take this new rule into consideration. It is one more challenge - and we like challenges."

Meanwhile, the former MK Dons manager thinks he will busy in the transfer market, but not until next month at the earliest.

"At the moment it's pretty quiet," he added. "There are not many deals happening.

"Probably because we're in the build to a World Cup and it's still early in the transfer market. We're only in mid-May and there are a lot of people digesting a lot of information - clubs and players.

"The pace will probably pick up next month. We would like to start pre-season with a full squad. That's our aim.

"In practice, we're probably going to miss a few players. But I think we have a good chance."
