Mowbray vows to fight on
Published : 19 Apr 2009 20:28:16

Tony Mowbray vowed to fight on after West Brom's survival hopes all but vanished at Eastlands. The Baggies are now nine points adrift from safety after Sunday's 4-2 defeat to Manchester City and it is looking ominous for Mowbray's side, who now need to win their five remaining fixtures if they are to have any hope of keeping their Premier League status. The Albion boss was left to rue his side's defending yet again after conceding a penalty just two minutes after equalising. Mowbray said: "I think we created enough chances to win the game today, the disappointment for me is the nature of the goals we conceded. "We shot ourselves in the foot with a ridiculous penalty; I can't stand here and say we're pleased. Frustration "It's a frustration that we missed our opportunities and I've said all along that in both boxes is where we haven't been good enough this year. "Yet everything else in between I think we matched, if not were better than Manchester City in all departments today." Mowbray felt City's second goal should have been disallowed as he claimed goalkeeper Scott Carson was impeded. He explained: "The second goal, having watched it in the dressing room, is as blatant a foul or obstruction of the goalkeeper that you can get and yet the official missed it." Mowbray has promised his side will fight to the death even if the odds are remote, he added: "We've been saying for a long time that we need to win five or six and that suggests we have got to win them all now. "But we have got to keep going and we will keep going until it's mathematically impossible for us to get enough points."
