Mowbray upbeat over future
05 May 2009 - 16:31:19
Manager Tony Mowbray insists West Bromwich Albion will not be forced to sell their prize assets should they drop out of the Premier League.
The rock-bottom Baggies could be relegated this weekend should they lose to Wigan Athletic and reports are already beginning to suggest that star players like Chris Brunt, James Morrison and Borja Valero could be on their way in the summer.
However, Mowbray claims that a healthy balance sheet at The Hawthorns means that he will not be forced to sell anybody should the club return to the Championship.
"If we go down, it will be for the third time in seven years but this club bounces back," he said.
"The club is very well run. It is not going to disappear out of the end of the next division.
"It's a club that will be very strong in the division below because of the fact that it doesn't have to sell any players if it doesn't want to.
"It's not carrying any debts so it's under no pressure from the banks so why wouldn't this group of players be very strong in the next division.
"Would it be a disaster to get relegated? It wouldn't be very enjoyable because nobody who works in football wants that and yet the club have been there before.
"We have won as many games in this league as the club has ever won in a Premier League season and we've got to try to build as a club and get better and stronger."
