    Mowbray targets new striker

    27 Oct 2008 - 14:36:11

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray has revealed that a new striker will be his main priority when the transfer window reopens at the beginning of January.

The Baggies were the top scorers in the Championship last term, but have found it much harder to find the net in the Premier League, scoring only seven times in their opening nine fixtures.

Top scorer Roman Bednar has just three goals to his name, with Mowbray admitting to Sky Sports News: "It's always a fine balance and I think the players know that. I don't think you need to keep ramming it down their throats.

"The centre-forwards at our club are disappointed when they don't score and you can take them on the training ground to do finishing drills, but it's down to what's in their head when the chance comes and how calm they can be and trusting their technique to finish.

"The goals will start flowing for us if we continue to make the chances.

"I've got faith in them. We've got to keep going, keep believing and, if we can turn half the chances we create at the moment into goals, we'll be doing okay.

"A striker was high up the shopping list in the last window really, but because we couldn't get the one that we wanted we didn't spend money in an area that we were not 100 per cent sure on.

"I think the strikers at the football club need extra competition and it's an area where we're looking for, but the right player at the right price has got to be available."
