Mowbray plans to keep duo
21 May 2009 - 15:47:21
West Brom manager Tony Mowbray hopes he will be able to tempt Juan Carlos Menseguez and Youssouf Mulumbu to stay at The Hawthorns even though the Baggies will be playing in the Championship next term.
Both players joined Albion on loan in January, Menseguez from Argentina Primera Division outfit San Lorenzo and Mulumbu from Paris St Germain.
Mensequez, 25, has scored once in six appearances for Mowbray's side while Mulumbu, 22, has started two matches and come off the substitute's bench on four occasions.
"I'd hope that both of those players could be signed up," said Mowbray. "I can only go to the board and give them my opinion on what I think should happen.
"In both cases the players have acclimatised. There was a difficult period for them when they came in and neither found it easy with the pace of the game and the physicality.
"The strength and energy required for 90 minutes in the Premier League is a lot different from where they've come from.
"But they've acclimatised now and I think they're at a stage with us where they can only push on and get better.
"I've had the benefit of working with them for a few months now and my own view is that we should try to pick up the options and get on with it. I think they're both tied in as long as we want to pay the money we've agreed."
