Mowbray eyes new strikers
12 Dec 2008 - 12:34:51
Tony Mowbray is planning to strengthen his West Brom squad with two new strikers in next month's transfer window, after learning that Ishmael Miller will play no more football this season.
Miller has been ruled out for nine months after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Portsmouth, but Mowbray is refusing to panic.
He told Albion's official website: "The plan would have been to identify two strikers of differing types and add them to what we've got and see if the chemistry was right for the team.
"But it's not as black and white as go and buy player A and he'll score ten goals for us, or go and buy player B and hope he scores a few goals. It's generally about whether they fit into the way you play.
"What I think our team possibly needs is something different. We haven't got anyone, for instance, who can head the ball into the back of the net.
"We cross the ball into the box as much as anyone in this league and yet do we ever head the ball in the net or score from a cross? Very rarely.
"We always try and score nice goals through a good passage of play.
"We're really looking for something to change the chemistry and balance and find someone who can maybe score a different type of goal."
