Mowbray enjoys Albion win
14 Sep 2008 - 11:03:06
West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Mowbray was delighted to see his side register a first win of the season with a 3-2 home victory over managerless West Ham United.
A late Chris Brunt strike earned the Baggies all three points and moved Mowbray's side away from the foot of the Premier League table.
The Albion boss said afterwards: "It's good to get that first win and hopefully one or two people will now stop asking the same questions each week about whether we can score goals at this level.
"It's a brutal industry and the longer you go without a win, the more psychologically it becomes difficult for the players.
"I always felt we were capable of scoring goals at this level. Today the game could have finished 5-5 or 6-6.
"But I am aware we have got to control the football match better than we did today. When we come up against a class side with world-class centre-forwards, they will hurt us.
"I thought we had defended quite well in the opening three games of the season, but with Abdoulaye Meite and Gianni Zuiverloon out injured, we may not be strong enough defensively.
"We've got the win and now it's important we get a couple more. Just the one means you don't move much, but a couple will take you into the pack and away from the bottom."
