Mowbray: Tight wins are key
29 Dec 2008 - 07:30:41
West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Mowbray believes edging tight games like Sunday's 2-0 win over Tottenham will ultimately keep them in the Premier League.
Roman Bednar and Craig Beattie combined to keep the Baggies' survival hopes alive with a second successive home victory.
Albion remain rooted to the foot of the table, but Mowbray has been heartened as the rest of the league's strugglers are now within touching distance of his side.
"I can talk about the Everton and Villa games here earlier in the season when we could have won quite easily but lost," he said.
"At this moment, we've won two tight home games instead of losing two tight games.
"In the second half of the season, we need to make sure we continue to win tight games, particularly the ones at home against the teams that may be around us.
"With the help of the supporters, we've got to make it an uncomfortable day for the opposition.
"If you've got no belief, you've got no chance.
"It closes things up a little bit and I think there are a few teams realising they are pretty close to dropping into the bottom three.
"We've got to be a side that tries to get out of the bottom three over the next few weeks or months."
