Morrison doubt for Baggies

West Bromwich Albion have confirmed that midfielder James Morrison is a major doubt for the start of the new season due to a heel injury.

The 23-year-old Scotland international missed to end of last season and has not yet fully recovered from an operation.

Boss Roberto Di Matteo told the club's official website: "James can hopefully start his pre-season this week.

"He's very frustrated and disappointed because all players want to start the new campaign from the first day of pre-season, getting a whole pre-season under their belt.

"That's very important for the season ahead, but James will be back. It's just a matter of time.

"It's too early to say for definite whether he'll be ready for the Newcastle game, but two weeks is probably a bit too short a time span to get a pre-season under his belt."
