    Miller ruled out for season

    09 Dec 2008 - 11:34:07

Rock-bottom West Brom's season has taken a turn for the worse after it was confirmed that Ishmael Miller faces up to nine months on the sidelines.

A scan on the 21-year-old striker's right knee has revealed that he damaged a cruciate ligament in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Portsmouth.

A brief statement on Albion's official website read: "Rehab for this type of injury normally lasts six to nine months, which means Miller is unlikely to be available again until next term.

"Miller, in his first full season of Barclays Premier League football, had started to fulfil his undoubted promise in recent weeks, scoring three times in his last seven games.

"He suffered the injury in an accidental collision in the 76th minute of Sunday's 1-1 draw with Portsmouth."

After the draw, Baggies boss Tony Mowbray had said: "It's a bad injury. He's got a medial knee ligament problem which is a blow to us because, while he's only 21, he's a threat to most teams he plays against with his size, power and strength.

"It was just a collision. He went for the ball with David James and they collided together. It is one of those things."
