Meite close to training return
10 Sep 2008 - 13:17:40
West Brom could be boosted by the return of Abdoulaye Meite in this weekend's Premier League clash against West Ham United.
The former Bolton Wanderers defender is set to return to full training less than two weeks after suffering a calf strain against his former club.
"Abou will hopefully take part in training on Thursday," first-team coach Peter Grant told Albion's official website.
"He's been working very hard physically but staying off his calf."
There has also been good news on Neil Clement who has been sidelined since limping out of last month's pre-season friendly against Real Mallorca with a knee injury.
"Clem is working very hard during his rehabilitation," added Grant. "We have a great backroom staff who are looking after him and don't take any chances.
"People ask how long he'll be out for but that's a very difficult one to answer. If you put a date on it and he doesn't get back by then people will think he's late.
"It's one of those day-to-day things. We're not going to put a timescale on it. But he is progressing.
"I don't think Clem will need an operation. It's just one of those things we have to monitor.
"Sometimes, you try to let things heal by themselves and then you discover it's quicker to have a tidy-up operation. But, at the moment, he's rehabilitating with the fitness coach."
