Jamie Redknapp's Weekend Watch: Roy Hodgson top coach

ROY IS A RAVERFootball remembers failures more than successes, which is why it is wonderful to see Roy Hodgson making an impact at West Bromwich Albion. He is decent, honest and a top coach. Just because it didn't work at Liverpool, it doesn't mean he should be cast aside. His reputation demanded he got another go, and Albion are reaping the rewards. Top coach: Redknapp is glad to see Roy Hodgson (right) doing well after his unhappy spell at Liverpool BRIGHT STAR NOLANWhat a signing Kevin Nolan has been for Newcastle. It's not just his goalscoring. In the dressing room, he is a leader, the type of player who will keep the group together when the pressure is on. He may not have been given the chance to display his quality in an England shirt, but he has been one of the Premier League's brightest stars. RED = RESPECTI used to swear at referees. Too often. I did it because I could get away with it. If more had been prepared to show me a red card, it would have shut me up; I would have lost my place, my club would have fined me and, just as importantly, I would have betrayed my team-mates by leaving them chasing shadows on the pitch. A red-card punishment is the only way to put it right now. It's that simple. Judging by his finish and his movement for Birmingham in their victory over Bolton, the old chap can still play a bit. The best golden oldie for me was Teddy Sheringham, but Phillips can still produce the goods. TEVEZ'S TIMENot a good weekend for the contenders for the Footballer of the Year award. Nemanja Vidic (Man Utd) got a chasing, West Ham's Scott Parker saw a 2-0 lead finish 2-4, Samir Nasri (Arsenal) was off the boil and Charlie Adam (Blackpool) saw his side crash. The only one who showed any form was Carlos Tevez. He might win it. BOBBY'S BACK!Great news for Fulham - and England - that Bobby Zamora is fit. He likes the 4-3-3 formation, because he can work the channels then peel off into the centre to attack the ball. His old Bristol Rovers boss, Ian Holloway, felt the force of his return to fitness. England can now pick from Bent, Carroll, Rooney, Crouch, Defoe and Bobby to play at No 9. JOSE V MY DADI'm heading for Madrid today and you'll forgive me for being a little nervous. It's not every day your dad faces Jose Mourinho, Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo in their back yard. I hope Gareth Bale is fit for Tottenham's big night. They have a good side and should not be intimidated. I hope they can enjoy it. A repeat of their San Siro heroics will do. The result I want is one that means Spurs are still in the tie for the second leg.  Manchester City 5 Sunderland 0: Five-star City up into third after thrashing Black Cats Fulham 3 Blackpool 0: Bobby's on the beat as Zamora fires double at the Cottage Hodgson paid whopping ?7.3m for just six months work as Liverpool bossAll the latest West Brom news, features and opinion  Explore more:People: Kevin Nolan, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ian Holloway, Nemanja Vidic, Teddy Sheringham, Kevin Phillips, Carlos Tevez, Roy Hodgson, Bobby Zamora, Gareth Bale, Jamie Redknapp, Jose Mourinho Places: Madrid, Newcastle, Birmingham, Liverpool, United Kingdom
