Di Matteo makes double swoop
04 Aug 2009 - 13:25:39
West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo has continued his spending spree after signing promising young forward Reuben Reid from League Two side Rotherham United.
He has also agreed a deal to sign Chile defender Gonzalo Jara for £1.3million from Colo Colo, subject to a medical.
The 5ft 10in defender, who can play at centre-back or right-back, has played 25 times for his country.
Colo Colo president Gabriel Ruiz-Tagle said: "We are pleased that we can provide an opportunity for someone to take his career forward into European football. We are very proud of this at our club.
"It shows to us that Colo Colo is the best place to give players the greatest opportunity in Chilean football and we are confident he will do well in England."
Speaking about capturing Reid, Di Matteo said: "Reuben is a young, exciting, talented player.
"He has a lot of potential to improve and he scored a lot of goals last season and has a lot of pace. He will give us a different option."
