Di Matteo defends Koren

West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo has jumped to the defence of under-fire midfielder Robert Koren, who spoke out recently against the Italian.

The Slovenian was frustrated with the former Chelsea player for not picking him, a reaction that Di Matteo insists he has no problem with seeing from his team.

"I've had a chat with Robert, and he wants to play. But, from my point of view I also need to have a look at what is the best possible team to win on any given day," Di Matteo explained on the club's official website.

"I think he is a very good footballer, and I wouldn't want to lose him," the 39-year-old added.
