Di Matteo: Baggies deserved win
19 Jan 2010 - 08:12:04
Roberto Di Matteo claimed his West Bromwich Albion side deserved to take more than the one point they ended Monday's 2-2 draw against Newcastle United in possession of.
Twice Newcastle came from behind to salvage a point, having gone into the game knowing victory would open up a five-point lead at the top of the Championship.
The third-placed Baggies led first through big Swedish defender Jonas Olsson and Roman Bednar, before United hit back with a Danny Guthrie goal and another from Peter Lovenkrands.
"If I reflect over the game, I think we deserved to win, to be honest," claimed Di Matteo. "We had some good chances and probably more chances than Newcastle as well.
"We deserved to win this game. They went very close to losing their first game at home tonight."
