Davies rules out final return

Injured West Bromwich Albion captain Curtis Davies has ruled himself out of Monday's Championship play-off final showdown with Derby County.

The former Luton Town defender has not featured since breaking a metatarsal bone in his foot in March and will not risk his long-term fitness by rushing back to play at Wembley.

Davies moved to The Hawthorns two years ago in a £3million transfer and was made captain when Tony Mowbray took the managerial reins last October.

"I could see myself being fit enough to play some part in the final, but I'm not willing to jeopardise my fitness or the team's chance of a place in the Premiership," he said.

"To go out there and represent my team as captain and yet not be up to the job wouldn't be fair on my team-mates or myself."
