West Brom have rejected a transfer request from captain and former Luton Town defender Curtis Davies.
The 22-year-old only penned a new four-year deal last summer but is keen to leave The Hawthorns after the Baggies failed to win promotion to the Premiership.
Manager Tony Mowbray told the club's official website: "I've had a conversation with Curtis and he's sensible enough to realise the price has got to be right for us to even consider letting him go.
"Curtis is someone I admire both as a player and person. I enjoy working with him, he's the club captain and I'd very much like him to stay and lead the team next season.
"I stand by the comments I made after the play-off final when I said I only want players here who want to play for this football club.
"But that doesn't imply we're going to allow players to walk away. In the past 12 months, precedents have been set where defenders have moved for big fees and we rate Curtis very highly."
