Davies blow rocks Baggies

West Bromwich Albion's promotion hopes have been further hit by the news that captain Curtis Davies will miss the rest of the season due to a foot injury.

Centre-half Davies was injured during the 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace and will miss the closing couple of months of the Baggies' run-in.

A downbeat Albion boss Tony Mowbray told the club's official website: "Curtis has broken his metatarsal clean through and will miss the rest of the season.

"It's a big blow because he has been an inspiration to us defensively.

"I'm sure I'll be making some calls and checking on the availability of one or two players.

"There's no guarantee you can get the right quality players though, so we'll wait and see.

"We are pretty thin on the ground, but I've been aware of that for a good while.

"We have been making calls on a daily basis to check on the availability of players."
