Clarke: Baggies back on track
Boss pleased to be back to winning ways
Steve Clarke claimed he was a happy man after watching his side return to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Southampton.
Goals in each half from Peter Odemwingie – his first since the opening day of the season – saw Albion comfortably beat lowly Southampton and move up to fifth in the Premier League.
The victory, after two heart breaking last minute defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle, moved Albion on an impressive 17 points from their first ten league games.
Clarke admits Albion’s performance had its faults but said three points are all that matters after consecutive defeats.
“I’m happy,” said the Scot. “After the last two defeats, the performances were good – but no points, so it was just important to get back on track tonight. “The performance was okay, it was not exceptional. “We had good control of the game, especially in the second half. "We conceded possession a little bit but we controlled the game really well. “We didn’t look under too much threat and we always looked as though we could score on the counter-attack.”
