Carson waits on England

West Brom goalkeeper Scott Carson admits he has one eye on reclaiming his place in Fabio Capello's England squad ahead of the 2010 World Cup. Carson has endured a mixed season since joining Premier League basement dwellers West Brom in the summer, after Aston Villa opted against signing him on a permanent basis from Liverpool following a term spent on-loan with Martin O'Neill's side. The Baggies keeper is reasonably happy with his form though and although overlooked for Capello's squad for the recent double-header with Slovakia and Ukraine, he believes he can re-establish himself. "David James is pretty much set at number one at the moment with England but there are probably half a dozen other 'keepers who could get the other two places in the squad so it's going to be difficult for any of us," he said. "But, as long as you play every week, you will give yourself a chance. I think I've done okay this season but, the more games you get under your belt, the more consistency I can bring to my game. "Mr Capello is going to be looking for 'keepers he can trust if we get to South Africa so I've got to try and make sure that I do a good job here at West Brom. "If I do that, it's good for Albion - and hopefully it will give me a chance to get into the squad." Corrigan praiseCarson is still only 23 despite spells already in his career with Leeds and Liverpool and loan stints at Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton and Aston Villa before his permanent switch to The Hawthorns last summer. And he is quick to praise the part played in his development by Baggies goalkeeping coach and former England player Joe Corrigan. Carson said: "Joe Corrigan is a great coach to be working with. He works you really hard but has always got interesting things to say and different little things to try out. "He had a great career as a player, he played at the highest level. He has worked with some top goalkeepers since he packed in playing and you can't fail to learn from him."
