Brunt calls for fans' backing
05 Mar 2009 - 13:00:23
West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt still believes Tony Mowbray's side can defy the odds and avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
Tuesday's 3-1 home defeat to Arsenal left the Baggies six points away from safety with only ten games of the season left and they have only taken one point from their last six league matches.
Some Albion fans voiced their displeasure after the Gunners loss, but Brunt has called on the supporters to continue backing the team.
He said: "The fans have been great all season for us. This is as frustrating for us as it is for them, because none of us want to go back to the Championship.
"But it's a lot easier when you're sat in the stand watching and it's harder when you're out there playing, because Arsenal are a great team.
"They're a Champions League team and they showed the quality they had in their squad by being able to rest a few people.
"The fans just need to keep behind us and keep believing. The home games coming up are potentially winnable ones, but we need to tighten up at the back and defend our box better.
"If we do that hopefully we can get some points."
