New West Brom striker Roman Bednar hopes his recent injury nightmare is behind him as he aims to kick-start his career at The Hawthorns.

The 24-year-old Prague-born star moved to the Baggies on transfer deadline day in a season-long loan switch from Hearts and is looking forward to a new challenge.

"I struggled with my fitness at Hearts last season and now I've got a fresh start I just want to keep my fitness and play football," Bednar told Albion's official website.

"When I came here, I didn't think I'd be able to train for at least a week. But the physio said I was all right and I've already done a hard session with the first team.

"I believe in two weeks' time I'll be available for selection. First of all, I will make sure I'm fit.

"Then I will think about challenging the other strikers for a first-team place. I like being under pressure because it makes you work hard."
