Baggies switch thrills Dawson
01 Sep 2010 - 13:34:58
West Brom snapped up promising Rochdale youngster Craig Dawson on transfer deadline day before loaning him back to the League One club for the rest of this season.
The 20-year-old central defender has penned a three-year contract with the Baggies, plus a further year's option in the club's favour.
Dawson said of the switch: "West Brom is a great club with a great staff and great head coach. I'm looking forward to getting involved and working with these people.
"I know about Albion because you always look out for teams on the up and pushing into the Premier League. I've still got a lot to learn and I can use the staff here at West Brom and go back to Rochdale and play games.
"It will give me time to get used to the staff down here, the different training methods and still be getting games at the same time.
"You only have to look around the dressing room here to see there is a great set of talented lads. I'll be looking to learn from them."
Meanwhile, Albion have decided not to appeal against the red card James Morrison was handed at Liverpool on Sunday.
The Scotland international midfielder was dismissed in the closing stages of the 1-0 defeat for a crude challenge on Reds striker Fernando Torres.
Head coach Roberto Di Matteo said: "We've had a thorough look at all the available video replays of the incident and they have underlined what we felt at the time.
"Yes, James caught their player but he made a genuine attempt to win the ball, with no malice, and he was only slightly late. We definitely feel the punishment outweighs the crime.
"That said, to have any chance of getting the red card rescinded, the FA rules require us to prove the referee made a 'clear and obvious mistake' and we consider it unlikely an FA panel would agree that is the case in this instance."
Morrison will now serve a three-game ban.
