Baggies reject Valero offer
12 Jun 2010 - 12:10:38
West Bromwich Albion have rejected an initial offer from Sevilla for midfielder Borja Valero, who spent last season on loan with former club Real Mallorca.
The 25-year-old has struggled to make his mark after moving to England in the summer of 2008, but was back to his best after returning to La Liga at the beginning of last season.
However, a permanent return to Spain is far from certain.
Sporting & technical director Dan Ashworth told the club's official website: "There have been lots of rumours in the media over the past few weeks about Sevilla being interested in Borja, but the bid they tabled yesterday was the first we have received from them.
"It was rejected out of hand as it was nowhere near what we would regard as an acceptable offer.
"Borja enjoyed an outstanding season in Spain and we have just been promoted to the top-flight.
"If we do not receive a satisfactory offer for Borja, we are more than happy for him to rejoin us for pre-season training in three weeks' time and be a part of our Premier League squad."
