Baggies move for Kiely
31 Jan 2007 - 07:59:10
West Bromwich Albion have solved a potential goalkeeping crisis by landing Portsmouth veteran Dean Kiely on an 18-month deal.
Kiely, 36, has been drafted into The Hawthorns after regular number one Russell Hoult was suspended by the Baggies following newspaper allegations about his private life.
The former Republic of Ireland international has spent part of the current campaign on loan at Luton Town after losing his first-team place at Portsmouth to David James.
"We're delighted to have Dean on board," Albion boss Tony Mowbray told the club's official website.
"He's enjoyed an illustrious career at the top level and brings genuine competition for places.
"His professionalism will only enhance the goalkeeping department."
