West Bromwich Albion have plugged the gap left by Paul McShane's move to Sunderland by snapping up Luton Town's Leon Barnett for an initial fee of £2.5million.
The 21-year-old Hatters centre-half could eventually cost the Baggies a further £1million, after Barnett penned a four-year deal at The Hawthorns.
Albion manager Tony Mowbray told the club's official website: "He possesses outstanding physical attributes.
"We've brought in raw potential and there are parts of his game he needs to develop.
"But we're looking forward to helping him improve over the next few years and hopefully seeing Leon play his part in the future success of the club."
