Baggies join Bougherra race

West Brom have reportedly entered the race to sign Charlton Athletic defender Madjid Bougherra who had been expected to move to Real Betis.

The Baggies may step up their interest in the Algerian if they miss out on another target - Bolton's Abdoulaye Meite.

Middlesbrough and Sunderland are also being linked with the 25-year-old Bougherra, who has made 38 appearances for the Addicks since his arrival at The Valley from Sheffield Wednesday 18 months ago.

Charlton coach Alan Pardew had said at the weekend after his side's friendly win over Brighton: "Real Betis have been in the frame for a long while with Madjid.

"They still are and Madjid will probably be sold I think."
