Darren Bent hammered out a reminder to both Paul Lambert and Roy Hodgson to prevent West Bromwich Albion from extending their recent supremacy over Aston Villa. Bent was a surprise omission from Lambert's starting team but demonstrated his predatory instincts with an equaliser 10 minutes from time, his 150th career goal coming with only his third touch of the game. The £24 million forward's goal could also prove ideal timing for his international ambitions, with England head coach Roy Hodgson sat in the stands. Hodgson could now hand him a recall for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland when he names his squad on Thursday. Albion had taken the lead through Shane Long, who will have far better memories of his latest visit to Villa Park after he left the field in agony with a knee injury here last season. Despite the frustration of missing out on a first away win in the league, and their second at Villa in two seasons, this was Albion's fourth game without defeat against Villa.
