Albion sweat over Morrison
28 Apr 2009 - 14:09:39
West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Mowbray fears that James Morrison's season could be over after the midfielder suffered a foot problem.
The Scotland international sat out last weekend's 3-0 win over Sunderland and may not play again this season as the Baggies look to stage a late fight to avoid relegation.
"Best-case scenario is he feels fine and has a chance for the weekend," Mowbray told the Birmingham Mail.
"Worst-case scenario is he isn't and it could be weeks and weeks. He's been on antibiotics and they have basically done the job.
"It was as bad a blister as you've seen, with skin going over skin, over skin. It became infected and the antibiotics have cleaned the infection up.
"But let's wait and see. We might need to go in and scrape some of the dead skin away."
Meanwhile, Mowbray has confirmed that he intends to keep Shelton Martis at The Hawthorns after taking up a 12-month option on the defender's contract.
"It's nothing that needs to be done urgently, but as far as I am concerned there is no decision to make other than saying we will pick up Shelton's year option," he added.
"He is a young footballer in terms of experience and the signs are there that that penny is dropping and that he understands the maturity required to play for our team.
"And he has all the attributes and assets you require to play in central defence."
