Albion rule out Phillips exit

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Mowbray has laughed off reports suggesting veteran striker Kevin Phillips will be released in the summer.

Weekend stories had said the 34-year-old former Sunderland striker would be not handed a new contract after Mowbray brought in Luke Moore on loan from Aston Villa, with the likelihood of a permanent tranfser in the summer.

However, Mowbray told the Birmingham Mail: "Kevin's been offered a contract. There are discussions going on between the club and his advisors.

"Kevin Phillips is the top scorer in our division and it would be ridiculous to suggest what has been said - I'd suggest that it's mischievous to suggest otherwise."

Phillips has scored 17 times this term goals to bring his tally for Albion to 39 goals in only 67 appearances for the club.
