Albion lodge McShane appeal
24 Apr 2007 - 08:40:25
West Brom have decided to launch an appeal against the red card Paul McShane was handed on the stroke of half-time as Albion lost 3-2 at Burnley.
The Baggies looked set to enhance their play-off claims when they led 2-0 early on, but Andy Gray pulled a goal back for the Clarets midway through the first half.
Tony Mowbray's side still led when McShane was dismissed for serious foul play after a clash of heads with James O'Connor.
After the break, Gray's second goal of the game and a late winner by substitute Chris McCann completed the home side's comeback.
"We were doing okay before the sending-off," said Mowbray. "There were a few decisions like that.
"The sending-off was disappointing because, if you know McShane, there's not a player with more honesty in the game.
"While I haven't seen it, I'm pretty sure he was watching the ball and intended to head it. There would have been no malice about it. The referee got it wrong. We will appeal."
