Albion keen to tempt Fortune
12 May 2009 - 11:59:47
Tony Mowbray is keen to snap up loan striker Marc-Antoine Fortune on a permanent basis in the summer.
The 27-year-old, who scored twice in the weekend victory against Wigan Athletic to bring his tally for the club to five goals in 16 starts, is currently on loan at The Hawthorns from Nancy.
Wolves have been linked with a summer move for Fortune, but Mowbray hopes the striker will opt to stay with the Baggies even if they are playing in the Championship next term.
"Depending on which paper you read there are a lot more clubs than Wolves interested," Mowbray told the club's official website.
"He's a good player but I'm not going to build him up too big. I could say he hasn't scored enough goals. He has plenty of parts to his game that he needs to work on.
"And yet I like to think this could be the club where he can grow and develop, and keep going. If we did go down I hope he sees this as the place that he'd like to stay.
"He enjoys the atmosphere around our training ground and will try and help us bounce back. Obviously I'd like to keep him."
